DR. MAX BUCHWALD JR.
Dr. Max Buchwald Jr. earned his dental degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Buchwald was born and raised in Plano, Texas, having graduated from Plano West Senior High School before attending Oklahoma University for his Bachelors of Science in Microbiology.
He has taught at UTHSCSA the past two years while concurrently enrolled as a student. He has specialized training in Invisalign, molar endodontics, and implantology.
In his free time, Dr. Max Buchwald Jr. enjoys volunteering at local homeless shelters, the Christian Dental Clinic, the refugee health clinic, and mission work across the world, as well as staying active in triathlons.
He has an enthusiastic passion for dentistry and healthcare. His commitment to his patients is seen in his work and in their satisfaction.

MELISA KOUNAS, RDH
Melisa is a proud University of North Texas alumna and Golden Scaler Award recipient, graduating summa cum laude with honors. With over a decade of experience in the dental field, she’s known for her gentle touch, attention to detail, and ability to make every patient feel at ease in the chair.
Outside the office, Melisa is a marathon finisher and a devoted mom to two energetic boys. Whether she’s helping patients achieve healthier smiles or pushing herself toward new goals, she brings the same dedication and heart to everything she does.
Cathy Kounas, Operations Leader
Cathy brings over 30 years of experience in the dental field and a genuine passion for customer service. She loves helping patients feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk in. Outside the office, Cathy enjoys running marathons and spending time with her four grandchildren, who are her pride and joy.
Juliet Pequeno, RDA
My name is Juliet, and I am the lead dental assistant here at Buchwald family dentistry and orthodontics. When I am not helping patients with dental concerns. You will find me trying new recipes, drawing or crafting, working on diy projects, and spending time with my family. I come from a big family, as the youngest of 6, and family is a value that was instilled in my since a child. Helping my family to the best of my ability is something I am proud of. This office is run on the idea that the patients are like family. Therefore putting patients first is my top priority.
Danielle Thiel, Office Manger
Hi, I’m Denielle — mom to a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl who fill my days with joy and adventure. I love spending time outdoors, caring for animals, and making memories with my family. When I’m not working, I’m usually exploring new trails with my husband and kids or relaxing at home surrounded by our pets.
Lee Kounas, CMO
I handle all things marketing, media, and creative here at Buchwald Family Dentistry. I’ve spent the last decade creating content and building brands that actually connect with people — everything from video and design to social media and strategy.
Outside the office, I’m either mountain biking around Dallas, traveling with my family, or cheering on my two soccer-playing boys. And if I’m not doing any of that, I’m probably dialed in with a strong espresso in hand.
